Amit Gupta posted this yesterday:
I want to buy something to solve a problem, and I want it to be good. It doesn’t need to be the cheapest or even the best money can buy, just a very good, reliable, solution. […] Here’s where most review sites fail: They assume I want to read reviews. I do not. I want to be told which thing to buy.
I completely agree. I present: theshittoget.com
I actually started making this last November but got distracted and never finished it (until last night). I’m an electronics geek and bad at hiding it, and people occasionally ask me to recommend things. My answers are almost always the same and revolve around the same general categories, so I figured they might be useful collected into a web site.
Of course, it’s impossible to say that any one product is the definitive best in its category, so this only represents my personal opinions and caveat emptor, etc. Still, if you want the simplest answer to the question “which x should I buy?” I’m going to tell you the same thing whether you’re a super A/V nerd like me or someone who just wants some decent headphones.
